Well, I have to admit I haven’t posted recently - I have been asked if it’s because I’m still upset about Siouxsie dying - but it isn’t really that. The truth is that I’ve been getting mail every day for the past couple of months - ever since The Charmed Return was published - asking, demanding and pleading for a 7th book in the Faerie Path series, and rather than explain the situation to each person individually, I thought it would be quicker for me to simply point people in the direction of the most recent blog.
So far, in the past two months, I have received nearly 70 mails asking about a possible 7th book and explaining that the writer will be upset, devastated, mortified and horrified if there isn’t another book. That is more than one mail a day, just asking for more adventures with Tania and the Gang! Now, this is really great and I’m thrilled that so many people are desperate for more in the series - but I do have to let you know that at the moment, the situation with the Publishers in New York has not changed. They are still of the opinion that the series finished with book 6 The Charmed Return. However, I am planning on meeting up with one of the big movers and shakers in the UK later this week - and I will certainly show him all the mails I have received (they are printed out already and they’re waiting in a big envelope - and every new mail I get will be added to the pile). I honestly do not know if this will make any difference, but I’m certain he will be impressed by the enthusiasm you people always show when you write to me.
On that subject, yesterday I received the following email:
I devour your books;especially The Faerie Path series! You have truly inspired me to become a writer. I always have one of your books on me… ask my friends! I have never in my life ever read such amazing series, that I wish it could go on forever! I will tell you, that e-mail is never checked, so if you wish to reach me post something on this site. My friends say i’m too wise for a 12 year old.. I always laugh at the thought. Please contact me ASAP! I’m praying with all my heart for the 7th book!!! - Alanna.
So - thank you for writing, Alanna - I will say that one of the most exciting things for any writer to be told is that they have inspired a young person to become a writer themselves. That is exactly what happened with me - I read a book when I was 10 - and it made me want to write stories. And now, only ninety-six years later (!!) here I am.
Also, I got a mail from Katie the same day:
Hello! Im katie and I just have to say i loooove your books! you should make like a thousand more! cant wait to read the 6th book (:
I tried replying, but got a “failure” notice back as the mail couldn’t be delivered. So, please everyone, if you would like me to respond (which, by the way I always try to do!) please make sure you give me the correct email address.
Other stuff? Well, the first of The Six Crowns series is due in the stores on 1st April, which is great - and I have already had a mail from a movie producer in Los Angeles saying the series looks like it would make a great animated movie, which was pretty exciting. But I have to bear in mind, of course, that the odds of an initial enquiry turning into a movie being made are really really low - less than 50 to 1, I’m told. Still - people are noticing the books already, which is very good news.
I’m also in talks with various publishers concerning other projects - but I really can’t talk about them yet - it’s not a great idea to talk about new ideas before they are finalised, but I promise I’ll let you know as soon as anything new happens.
Did the movie producer even suggest The Fearie Path
AFJ. T.K.B. - no, not this time, but it means my stuff is being noticed by Movie Producers, which is good news.
That’s pretty amazing how people are mailing you so much for more. =D Maybe it will make a difference, I’d love more. Faerie Path is like one of my favorite series.
I read the first of the six crowns series (the copy you mailed me in July) and I LOVED it! I can’t wait to read the second one! Even though it’s meant for younger kids, I still really enjoyed it. I thought the characters were funny and the story was very entertaining! Thanks for giving me the book!
i wish you luck with the person your meeting with!!!! i really want anouther book in the series. or at least mabye in the same world, or some short stories about the other sisters or anything like that i just hope that it doesnt end here! but even if it does that just gives you more time to write more i have absolutly no doubt that you will make more amazing stories!!!
I’m on the same page as sarah. I thought the books were ment for younger people, at 24 not sure I qualify. The story line is so amazing that it sucked me in and I just can’t get enough! I’m hoping for a 7th book along with everyone else. Your a very talented writer and I’m looking forward to reading more of your work.
AFJ. Liz - unfortunately the man I was supposed to be meeting with has the flu - we’ve rearranged the meet for two weeks time - but I did mention the number of requests I’ve had for more Faerie Paths and he was very impressed.
Mallorie - there’s no upper age limit for my books - last time I did a survey of Faerie Path and Warrior Princess, over two thirds of readers were 17 and above, with a really big cluster in the early to mid twenties - and other readers going up into their fifties. I still read children’s books for fun.
Sarah - I’m really pleased you enjoyed the book - I did try to write them so that grown-ups would have some fun reading them as well as kids.
Two weeks? That’s awesome! It means we have more time to email you with more letters!
well in two weeks i wish you luck! one of the reasons i like your reading so much is because of they way you try to write them for all ages its nice to read books meant for your age group but its also nice to read books that are a little simpler. not that the faerie path sereis was simple it had my mind spinning all the time! a lot of my friends will laugh at me when i tell them that one of my favortie sereis is about faries but they think of something like tinkerbell but your books are nothing like that.
Well one day The Fearie Path will become a movie I can just feel it will become a movie before the end of the year.
AFJ. Before the end of the year? Excellent! I hope you’re right.
That is so AWESOME! Its easy to want to wish the Faerie Path series would just go on and on forever. You’re such a wonderful writer. But I must admit, if there *HAS* to be an ending, the one you chose was perfect. Except for the part about Faerie people still not–… Oops. Sorry. No spoilers.
Hehe. That’s really cool about the movie of The Six Crowns! I think all of your books would be great as movies, they’re so vivid as they are. Part of me would still completely hate it if some producer/director messed it up.
Anyway, I’m going to try and post my review of The Charmed Return sometime today, and I’ll email you the link. I’ve started my classes again so the blog is moving at a crawl. lol But Faerie Path 6 was a GREAT break from them! <3 I couldn’t put it down.
I absolutely love these books! It makes me so mad that they want to leave it at 6, I mean come on 7 is the magic number with these people. Plus I am a true romantic and it doesn’t seem fair to not know what happens with Tania and Edric after this or what will happen to the King and the rest of Faerie.
And I agree with T.K.B, they have to make Faerie Path into a movie series. And heck if they do it soon I’ll even try out for the part of Tania if I can, but playing one of her sisters would be way cool too. If you ever get a breakthrough on Faerie Path as a movie series please let me know and maybe I could try out if there were audition spots close to me.
Oh and don’t stop writing, EVER! I love your books and Faerie Path and Warrior Princess just sucked me right in.
Dear Allan,
I’ve been reading since ia was about four or five. I have always believed in magic or whatever you want to call it and with every book about fairies I believe more and more. The world needs hope and excitement and that is exactly what your books gave to the world. Don’t ever stop doing what you do best!!! EVER!!!
