Ever since I posted some of my artwork on the Fan Club site, I’ve had requests to draw pictures of what I think the princesses of Faerie look like. Well, I have just posted some quick sketches of Tania’s sisters on the Fan Club website - go to Picture Gallery, and you’ll find them.
But here’s the thing: this is only what I think they look like - if you have them looking completely different in your imagination, then your version is as valid as mine.
The great thing about books is that they allow the individual reader to imagine what everyone and everything looks like. Sure, I’ll describe places like the Royal Palace and Crystalhenge and the sinister fortress of Dorcha Tur (oops - sorry…that’s in book five…), or people like the princesses or Lord Aldritch or whoever - but ultimately, you the reader will decide inside your head what they really look like. And that is why I prefer books to movies - in a book every reader is in charge of how things look, not some casting director, set designer or CGI computer freak.
So, what I’m trying to say, is that if you disagree with how I see Tania’s siters, that’s fine with me - in fact, that’s great. Don’t let my idea of how the girls’ look change the way you see them.
Cool
this was probably purposely, but Rathina’s stare just goes right into you, it creeps me out, but they are AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
wow you are not just the best writer in the wourld you are also like the best drawer!!!!
These are great. You are quite an artist. They do look amazingly like what I see in my head. You described them SO well. Thanks!
Wow! You’re a really great artist! Yeah, they look different than I imagined. I like Rathina the best. That one is COMPLETELY AWESOME! They are all wonderful though.
They are REALLY GOOD! especially rathina. I was always trying to figure out Rathina, and now she makes comeplete sense!
by the way I imagine Lord Aldritch of a really heavy guy
Their all great! and definetly Rathina!
and speaking of Rathina, Mr.Jones, is she really sorry about everything, especially to Tania in the fourth book? Her actions like defending Tania and helping her through everything seem to say yes. But were they ever really best friends? wouldnt Drake have always been around which would have made her hate Tania from the start?
AFJ. Mandy - that’s an interesting question. I think not only is Rathina sorry for all the trouble she caused, but she is also totally wracked with guilt about it - even though much of it was caused by Drake. The real question is - as love never dies in Faerie - can guilt ever die? Is Rathina ever going to get over what she did?
the pictures are so cool. i didnt picture eden the way she was drawn out. i pictured her with pitch black hair. but i think it is cool knowing what u think they look like allan.
Mr.Jones, now that the faerie people have lost their immortality, would that also mean things like love never dies in faerie still apply?
maybe Rathina should offer(or trick) her love for Drake up to restore the covenant, taking the load off tania and in the process freeing herself of Drake.
This could be the only gap in time where she could do that, and redeem herself(if the love never dies in faerie doesnt apply).
AFJ. Hey, Mandy - that is such a great idea! I love the idea of Rathina offering herself, or her “love” up to cure the plague! And you’re right, of course, she really does need to do something to redeem herself, even though all Faerie’s problems are not entirely her fault.
Wow I never thought about it that way Mandy!
Mr. Jones, if Rathina did that, would Tania tell her not to? or would Tania not care if Rathina offers herself to the plague because she could never fully love Rathina again? (does that make any sense?)
AFJ. First of all, remember that the books have been written - so following Mandy’s idea is like following a different time-line…we all know how that works, right?
My take on it would be that Rathina would do it in secret - knowing Tania would try to stop her - so maybe the first Tania would know of it was after the event?
Although Rathina is definitely the “dark” sister - I think she’s one of those border-line people who could go bad or good, depending on what happens to her. I suspect her Mom would say in this world that she “got in with the wrong people” - Drake, in her case, and his enchantments and love-lies worked on a spirit that was already predisposed to be either very good or…well, you know the alternative. Tania has huge compassion for her and wishes with all her heart that she could do something to take the massive burden of guilt off Rathina’s shoulders. The question is…what…and how…?
So you mean if Tania could, she would do (almost) anything to take Rathina’s guilt away? But where would Tania draw the line?
ok. i just thought about something. can rathina swim? i pretty sure tania and connor can, but i thought that maybe rathina was scared of the water since she thought titania drowned. maybe she might fall of the boat and drown. hopefully not. or maybe she would find out that tania was going to offer herself to the divine harper, but she takes her place. What if they can get there wings back? what if tanias love for edric dies and she falls in love with connor. maybe they will get married, and her will become immortal just like titania. and if there immortality is gone, shouldnt they have gotten there wings back? alot to think about, isnt there?
AFJ. Those are all really interesting points, Marisa. What can I tell you? Well…your thought that Rathina might fall off the boat is not entirely wrong…but it’s not entirely right, either. And your thought about the wings is not entirely wrong or entirely right either, as well. As for Tania’s emotional bond with Connor…I can tell you that something happens between them early on in book 5.
Your a really good artist!! For some reason though I thought all of them younger. Rathina is proably the one that looks the most like what I thought she should look. But i know they are great. And have we gotten anymore news on the Movie!!!!
not so far, there is however 158 signatures as of right now. I’m hoping Harper Collins has taken a look at it and you know thought about it. I’m sure Mr. Jones would be the first to know if they were making it into a movie. Right?
AFJ. Well, probably the third, Addie. I imagine either my UK editors or the New York publishers would be the first to know. But the more you guys chat about it on the internet, and the more you talk the books up to your friends so they buy copies, the more chance we have of seeing Tania and the gang on the big screen. I’m constantly amazed at how many fans who contact me tell me that I’m their favourite author and that Faerie Path is their favourite series. One day some of you will probably be published authors - then you’ll know how it feels!
